This publication contains monthly information on sales of new motor vehicles in each State/Territory in original, seasonally adjusted and trend estimated terms. The original data are sourced from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Sales data are available for passenger vehicles, other vehicles and total vehicles at the State/Territory and National levels.


MARCH 2002 KEY POINTS

Trend

The trend for total new motor vehicle sales fell by 0.1% in March 2002. This fall follows increases over the previous nine months. Queensland and South Australia both continued to record growth this month while the other States and Territories showed decreases.

New passenger vehicle sales fell by 0.4% while sales of other vehicles rose by 0.5%.

Seasonally Adjusted

Seasonally adjusted total new vehicle sales fell by 7.3% in March 2002, the second consecutive monthly fall. All States and Territories recorded falls this month.

Sales of new passenger vehicles fell by 5.6% and sales of other vehicles fell by 10.6%.
